On the way home from the mall, the car passed Eastside General again. Amy couldn’t resist taking another look at the sign. Maybe they’d all read it wrong. But it was the same sign, and it presented the same date.

“Maybe there’s another Eastside General,” Tasha suggested.

Amy shook her head. “I don’t think so.”

“Then it’s just a mistake on your birth certificate,” Tasha said. “Someone typed the wrong hospital name.”

Eric had another suggestion. “Or maybe your birth date’s wrong, and you’re really only ten.”

He was teasing again, but she knew he was doing it to make her laugh. She could only manage a smile.

“I’m sure there’s a perfectly logical explanation,” Mrs. Morgan said. “Don’t worry about it.”

Tasha agreed. “What does it matter where you were born anyway? You’re here now, that’s what counts.”

“Yeah, I guess,” Amy said. She honestly didn’t know why this was bothering her so much. Probably because there was still the autobiography to consider. Now she had one less bit of information she was sure of.

Mrs. Morgan dropped her off in front of her house, and she stopped at the mailbox. There was only one item inside—a long, plain white envelope. It was addressed to her, and there was no return address. Another message from Jeanine? Maybe Amy should inform her rival about her mother’s decision regarding Amy’s future in gymnastics. Then Jeanine wouldn’t have to bother writing nasty notes.

She ripped the envelope open and pulled out the sheet of paper.
